Day 51 - Sunday in Tom Price

Hello everyone, I hope you are all having a lovely weekend. We are, today was one of those days where we just did nothing, but it was enjoyable to do nothing. My version of nothing was 3 loads of washing…lucky the machines and line are very close. Annie went to bed at 7pm but then she woke up at midnight, Ness & I had just gone to sleep after watching the Tour De France. She was a bit upset, but we just don’t know why? She cried for a few minutes & was a bit unsettled but after Ness fed her she went back to sleep and then slept right through to 7am. It’s frustrating not knowing what is wrong with your kids, you can’t tell if it is pain, a bad dream, too hot, too cold. So I hope she sleeps through tonight. She woke up this morning happy as Larry, so couldn’t have been too serious.

We caught up with family today, spoke to Granny who is leaving to visit my sister Georgia, spoke to Sandy & David who are in Yarra Glen, Spoke to Heather & Brad who are up in Qld & finally spoke to Dan who won his footy game today, that is 3 games in a row, Well done Cougars. I would have spoken to Brad too but he has lost…. Sorry, misplaced his phone!!!

Because we didn’t do much I don’t have much to write about, so it’s an early night & maybe a movie for Ness & me. Night all.

Reader’s replies & birthday's

My son Brad sent a message, nice to hear you are still there Brad

Edward who is a member of the Crunching Teeth also sent a message, thanks Edward.

Happy 16th Birthday to my beautiful niece Sydni, hope you had a great day and you got spoilt.

And my Mum told me that I have not mentioned Panda enough. Panda certainly gets mentioned amongst us a lot here…I am sure Annie is missing her too.

Oh I just don’t know what to say tonight, last night I woke up & was really upset, I cried & cried but I just don’t know why, Mum hugged me & I smiled when I saw Dad, but I was still upset. I got back to sleep but it was just a bad night for me.

Today was a fun day, we stayed at the box on wheels all day & did nothing but it was fun because Mum & Dad played with me all the time, I like it when we sometimes just do nothing except play.

Tomorrow I hope we do nothing as well, but I hope I sleep better tonight.

 Love yous all

Day 50 - Half a century away

Well we have reached the 50 day mark, we left home on the 26th May and here we are in Tom Price 50 days later. And while we miss our home some days, I miss Panda all days, we miss family most days & we miss friends occasionally speak for yourself I miss friends and family equally…many of my friends are my family too!!….it is still a great trip and we are all glad we are doing it. The positives are that we are all together almost 24/7 apart from the time I go to work, we eat, sleep, travel & share every minute of the last 50 days.

It’s just not normal! Tell me about it!! I mean you think about your personal situation, you or your partner don’t see each other during the day (unless you work together) you have a bit of time after work & then it’s off to bed & do it all over again 5-6 days a week. And for some people the days that they do have off they go and do their own things. So in reality what Ness & I are doing is just not what most people do. But it works! We have had a really good trip so far and are looking forward to August when we head back across & through the centre of Australia. Got some dirt roads to travel & will catch up with Brad in Alice Springs. Awesome!

We went up the hill today. There is a mountain called Mt Nameless, well actually it does have a name Jarndrunmunhna but the whitefella’s couldn’t say that so stuck with Mt Nameless. There is a track that takes you up the hill & when you get there the views are amazing. We took some pictures but the photos don’t really do it justice, it was really breathtaking. And the drive up and back down was fun too, the Land Rover was in its element.

DG saved our lives today. We had a major computer meltdown. Ness went to close her laptop & there was a piece of Annies clothing in between the keyboard & the screen. It cracked the screen making the laptop unreadable! We didn’t realise this until came back to it later and I opened the screen and was like WTF??

Now this computer is our life, it has or schedule, our accounting system, our calenders, our client database…..Everything on it! For those of you who know Vanessa she is pretty well organised, in fact she has been called ANAL on occasion and she has backups & copies of everything! But that was not going to help us in the middle of the Pilbara!

We were pondering solutions, use my laptop and transfer all the backups, remove Ness’s hard drive and transfer it to another hard drive so we could then transfer it again to a new computer when we found one (that’s a lot of transferring). While this was all happening I have to add that I was very proud of myself for not losing it…I stayed very calm and collected and knew that at some stage we would find a solution.

DG happened to ring shortly after we found the problem and just said “Can you get another monitor and plug your laptop into that? If it is only the screen that is damaged.”

Ness & I looked at each other and thought “That is brilliant!”

There is a shop here that sells electrical equipment and passes itself off as a computer shop/internet café. We went in and were not holding our breath for a solution. We asked if they had any monitors & the lady said “Only what is in the window” which was fine as they had 2 twenty inch monitors still in their boxes. We then asked if they had any computers in stock. They said they only had one laptop and it was a display model!.... We took both!

Ness spent part of today backing up her old laptop, then transferring all the things we need onto the new one! Who says you can’t find a solution for just about anything!

But it was DG’s suggestion that gave us hope. You will make an IT guru yet Dad!!

Kristine D confessed to her coffee addiction, but used the twins as an excuse! S&K we know what it is like to travel with Annie, if we had two with us we would be on more than coffee!

Jack got his pig! Congratulations Jack, and then it got away….Congratulations Pig!

Tereasa  explained the Dilemma about being a Dilemma…..It’s a long story but it will give me lots to take the crap out of her for years to come!

Oh dear, my Dad is complaining all the time. For the last couple of days he gets up and gets on his bike. He rides on these roller things for a while and then gets off and has a shower. He says it is so he gets fit & doesn’t get too big & cuddly. I like my Dad big & cuddly. But he also wants to make sure he is healthy so he can play with me for years & years to come.

But why does he then complain to me & Mum that he is sooooo sore! C’mon Dad, harden up a bit!

We drove up this great big hill today, it was very bumpy and rough. Do you remember me having to prop your head up with a little pillow so it didn’t roll around while you slept and we drove up the bumpy hill? Dad kept telling me and Mum that he loves his Land Rover & how good it was…. I’m starting to worry about Dad, he has this weird thing going with his car! Get used to it Annie…your Dad is a Petrol head and loves his cars!!

My friend Jack from Steels Creek (Not Jack from Point Cook….soon to be Sydney…..or Jack from Hawthorn with a broken leg. Hey how come you three got the same names? I’m confused) got his pig! Yay Jack, but then it got away…. How did you crawl after it Jack? I tried to catch birds today but it did not work!

Edward & Jack, this morning I was lying in bed with Mum, Dad was making her some smelly stuff called coffee and I got near her ear and Crunched my teeth! It was awesome, Dad laughed at the face Mum pulled, she said it was a horrible sound, but it was soooo funny.

Ok I have to go, In The Night Garden is just about to finish, I like it when Dad watches it with me & Iggle Piggle doesn’t go to sleep. My dad makes a shape with his hand and points it at Iggle Piggle and then he makes Bang Bang noises  and Iggle Piggle drops down! Wonder what my dad is doing???? Such a positive influence…your Daddy is on you. J

Good night & sweet dreams

Day 49 - Friday the 13th

Good morning or evening, how are you all? I have to apologise to most of you for the short blogs the last couple of days but there was actually a reason behind it all, you see Meredith in NZ has had a problem with coffee for years, she just drinks way too much of it! (Not sure if that has contributed to her worm problem) And as the size of my blog usually determines how much coffee she drinks. So I have been trying to do smaller & smaller blogs to wean her off the coffee! In a few days I might not even do a blog so she just does not have a coffee!

Actually that’s a lie….I’ve never physically met Meredith, but she is a regular on the blog & it’s the first thing that came into my head!

Hey do you know the story of this place? There was this bloke called Thomas Moore Price, he came out from America in the 60’s (Dunno why we couldn’t find an aussie?) to check out the ore deposits in the area.

He then tried for ages to convince couple of mining companies & the state government that it was worth a crack!

But here’s the killer! He returned to America & received a phone call that the mining companies and government had finally agreed to mine the area & signed an agreement. He had a heart attack and died at his desk a couple of hours later!..... Poor bugger. So they called the place after him.

Actually it’s lucky that they didn’t have an Aussie find the place, imagine coming to a place called Bazza Smith, or Kevin Jones.

Had a day off today, here’s a story for you. On the last trip we did DG (Ness’s dad) gave us a little printer that he was not using, there was nothing wrong with it & we put it in a plastic tub & carried it for the whole trip without using it once! So when we were packing for this trip Ness said “Should we take the printer?” to which I said “No way!”

Well do you reckon we have needed a printer this trip? YES…. I reckon there has been at least 10 times where we have both said “Wish we had a printer” oh and do you reckon it is easy to find a place to get things printed up here in the bush! We had to go to the local library today and get 170 pages of documents printed and they charged us 60c a page! We could buy a printer for that! If only there was somewhere up here that sold printers!!!

So half my day was spent in the library waiting for things to print! Oh but it was worth it….they have this super cool play area for kids, it has toys, cushions, small tables & chairs a TV (funny thing to have in a library I thought) so Annie was having a ball. All these new things to see, do & play with. She also met a friend who was a bit older than her, Ness will put up pics soon.

Tomorrow I have decided that we will drive to the top of Mt Nameless, it is a beautiful big mountain just at the edge of the caravan park. There is a 4WD track that gets you right to the top, but heres the dilemma. (No offence to you Tereasa….. for those of you who don’t know Tereasa’s surname is Dillema…. I crack myself up) yesterday  I spent almost 3 hours washing and cleaning the car! And it looks awesome Egg & Pete A….. So now I’m going to get it dirty again. I miss the guys at Chirnside Park who wash the car inside & out for $30 so stay tuned for the pictures and we will try to get video footage too!

Annie’s Blog

Wow we have another really good spot for the Box on wheels, it is right near the toilet and laundry block. So everyone who walks past stops and talks to me. I just can’t understand why Mum & Dad get annoyed, I mean they are just being friendly! And so what if they want to talk for half an hour or more!

I’m in a bad mood today, my mouth hurts, my body hurts from getting big & I just am not feeling myself, but the worst part is I just can’t tell Mum & Dad, they look at me and say “What’s wrong Annie?” and I just can’t say anything, all that comes out is aiiiieeeee or Ooooaaa or owowowo….. I soooo hope I can learn to speak soon and then they will really hear what I am thinking or feeling!

Dad is taking us Boosh Bashin tomorrow, I got no idea what that means but I heard Mum & Dad talking about it. I hope I get good food on the Boosh Bash!

I saw the car today and it looks different, yesterday it was red & brown & yucky, now it is pretty & white & sparkly….My Dad is so clever he can make cars change colour.

Have a lovely weekend peoples.

Day 47 - Dick Costs

Can’t really write too much tonight, it’s been a big day. Today I worked at a Rio Tinto site, I was meant to work at 11am when the guys flew back to site (Yes they have an airstrip on site) but the plane was late & I did not work till 130, so I sat around waiting. Then I had to drive an hour back to where we are staying, pick Ness & Annie up & then go into Tom Price to get a permit to drive on the rail access road tomorrow. Ness had shopping to do & we then came back to the van. I had to put the awning up and secure it with pegs, which we don’t normally do for short stops, but just in case it blows away as we will be here for a few weeks. Ness then fed Annie, I cooked 2 magnificent steaks on my BBQ & we had dinner, did the dishes, watched the last bit of “In the night garden” Ness read Annie her books & fed her, I went to the loo, filled up our hot water bottles & I am now typing to my blog friends. I’ve got a few days of over the weekend so I will type more then.

Meredith told me to use Lanolin on my hands, not a bad suggestion M, will give it a go. But without gloves.

Mel is out on a big date tonight, at least I got her commenting on the blog again.

And my sister Heather is having a party for my niece Sydni who turns 16 on Sunday. Heather was going to arrange for entertainment for Syd & her friends then realised that her husband (Syd’s dad) would be there and they would not need entertainment.

Annie’s blog

This is Annie’s dad here, Annie fell asleep early tonight and was unable to do a blog, so goodnight from us all. XXX
