Day 44 - Oldwoman

I had to get up at 350am this morning! I had to work at 630am but had to complete an induction before I was allowed on site. So if I fall asleep while writing the blog just give me a nudge. I finished my work at 1030am and was back with Ness & Annie by 1130. So not bad for a day’s work and I have the rest of the afternoon to watch the V8’s….
Change of plan, the other week I mentioned to Ness that one of the van tyres was wearing a bit thin. It is the tyre on the left hand side of the van at the rear. This tyre normally wears a little quicker than the rest as it skids a little more when you do U turns with the van. Ness kept dropping hints about when I would change it. Like “When are you going to change that tyre?” You were the one saying we really need to change…so when you say that I am only thinking of our safety.
So pull out the jack, & as Ness was sitting around doing nothing (as if) I said “Can you get under there darling & jack it up for me?” which she did! Gee I love my wife!!!
I then changed the tyre & checked it all out & as Ness was still sitting around doing nothing I said “Honey can you get under there & let the jack down?” which she did! It is called brownie points!!
So I put the old wheel on the drawbar where the spare goes, put the cover on it, checked the tyre pressure, put air in the tyre and Ness packed the toolbox & the compressor away while I did the wheel brace & the jack.
Now the moral of this story is “If you have a good team you can do anything you want to do!”
We have struggled with internet access up here, what happens is that many people that work up here don’t have a landline or access to internet during working hours. So they all access the net via their phones or use their phones as modems for their computer (Like we do). But there is only so much 3G bandwidth to go around so during the busy periods it is a nightmare to get on the internet & send or receive emails. So we try to get the blog done and out either before 530ish (The shift workers knock off at 6), or after 11….as they are usually on the phone or net between these times. And they go to bed at 10 or 11ish so it frees up after that!
The neighbors left this morning, remember I told you they were in tents? Well this morning when I left for work at 445 I went to start the car, the Land Rover’s lights automatically come on if it is dark and I think I woke them all up! Now I DID NOT do this intentionally!
There are white cockatoo’s up here that are pink! Norm & Marg, Bill & Sue you will have seen them. The red Pilbara dust makes them red cockatoos, it’s quite funny to see. They still make a lot of noise.

Big Big Happy Birthday to Shayne. We hope you have a great birthday Shayne and we will hopefully catch up on our way up to Qld later in the year.
Michael G sent an email telling me he knows what it is like to get whacked on the inside of your head with a phone book because it happens to him regularly!.... Good to hear from you MG.
My cousin Marc also emailed us, Hiya Marc. Did you watch Billy Connolly on Sunday Night last week? Very funny.
Brad A sent a message on the blog, I appreciate this as he is currently busy training a select group of Yatala locals in guerrilla warfare for his upcoming hostile takeover of the Gold Coast city council! But he is obviously overdoing it as he said he actually enjoyed Tina Arena! Thanks mate keep up the good work.
Liz P shared her breakfast of toast & vegemite with marmalade on it! Oh Liz, I’m so sorry for you, obviously the fact that you have not eaten meat for so long has corrupted your sensory perceptions! I mean if there were ever two things that should not be mixed it is Vegemite & Marmalade!
Annie’s Blog
Today was funny because when I woke up my Dad was not here, for the last week or even more, I can’t remember coz I’m only little….My Dad has been here every morning. But today he was at work. Mum told me he would be home soon, but it was still a bit different than normal.
Me & Mum got some work done though, We did the washing & swept & mopped the floor in the van. It’s hard to work when Dad is around because he gets in the way, or when he is not in the way he just wants to play. Sometimes he is a bigger kid than me.
Anyway today I had a buster, I was climbing up the cupboards in the box on wheels and I slipped & fell on my head. My new teeth must have cut my lip because Mum saw this red stuff come out of my mouth…. She said it was Blud. I wonder where Blud comes from, it’s not very tasty!
In this town the shops stay closed on Sunday, how am I supposed to become an expert shopper when the shops stay closed?
Oh & Don’t tell Mum & Dad but Jack is going to help me get my very own animal, I might get a sheep, or a pig, or maybe even a polar bear?
Sleep tight all.

Hi there
After following this blog second time journey round I have let the dementia truelykick in and have been sending my comments via contact us instead of "make a comment" I was starting to think you were dissing me James.
Well I'm just back in time to say flannette versus naked man I take every time when it's this cold it's not pretty and your attempt to go the "team" positive road still doesn't make up for you discussing Nessy's foosies.
And I love Tina arena!!!!!
Polar bear . . Go the polar bear . . I want one too now Annie. Maybe we can have a club that only kids that have a polar bear can join? Wanna start a club with Jack and Me? Or maybe we can make it that only kids with pets can come as that way there might be more of us? Anyway know that we miss you and wish we could be trekking around the country with you guys. It's my birthday soon and Mum and Dad must be doing something as they are running around trying to 'get things organised' they keep saying. I think you'll be away for the big day but I'll save some cake for you. x
So don't like those EARLY EARLY mornings....sometimes it seems better to just stay up - did that at Xmas time when I was heading over to Ma and Pa Kettles ahead of Nathan....had Nathan's work Xmas party the night before a very early morning flight - the party went a little later than I had thought (as it does - where does the time go?) - came home...sat around waiting for it to be time to head to the airport - about 3.30am from memory - paced and paced around the airport - didn't know if I wanted a coffee or vodka..think i settled for coffee... fell asleep on the plane before it even left the terminal.....made it to QLD and then had a great excuse to spend a good solid few hours in the arvo having a snooze..... Mum was none the wiser..... anyway - James - let me know when you need an early morning wakeup call........being 4 hours ahead does have it's advantages.
Back to the "what do you have for breakfast" - have to admit marmalade and Vegemite sounds hideous although i am going to give it a try as I have just made some "Poor Man's Orange" Marmalade from the tree in our back yard. My usual is toast with either Vegemite, Red Jam or Crunchy Peanut Butter - gotta be crunchy!
Happy to report I have STEPS! no handrail at this stage but alas I do have STEPS! The boys took a full 24 hours to "design" and build them and the only damage was to the windscreen of our friend's 4WD - they put a plank of wood through it when putting it in the car. Oh Dear!
Annie - forgot to add...don't fret about the shops being closed on Sundays - there's always ON LINE SHOPPING .....the shops NEVER close.... and you can shop wherever you like Paris, Milan, New York, Tokyo, Sydney, Newman, Auckland.......
